Full Description
{1} Fieldwalking; finds from an area of earthworks ploughed following the amalgamation of two fields.
A thin scatter of C10-C11th black shelly ware with no obvious concentration.
Abundant medieval pottery in shelly, Potterspury and dark, sandy fabrics, including Brickhill, of the C12-C14th mainly. This came in bulk from the line of the battered settlement remains to the west of the hollow way and also from the area of the earlier finds. The pottery from 'm', together with the earthworks, suggests an early medieval exapnsion of settlement along the track, but that contraction had taken place sometime in the C14th. Fragmentary remains of a house, along with pits and ditches were found here during pipeline laying in 1979.
A general scatter of C17th and C18th tile fragments, but a dense scatter of C17th to C20th pottery around 'h' where the cottages were marked on an early map.
