Full Description
{1} Possible minor road?; uncertain date; rubble layer recorded.
{2} No evidence for causeway or road surface of any period was discovered; a number of north-south running ditches with rounded profiles & filled with grey silts were revealed; possibly either drainage ditches or field boundaries; pottery of C12-13th was recovered from one ditch; a rough rubble spread near postulated line of causeway was investigated but found to be insubstantial; large quantity of C14th & C15th pottery was recovered from within rubble & from its surface.
{3} No evidence for a causeway, or road surface of any period was discovered. A number of ditches with rounded profiles, running N-S and filled with grey silts, were discovered. These maybe either drainage ditches or field boundaries. Pottery of 12th-13th century weas recovered from one of the ditches.A rough rubble spread near the postulated line of the causeawy was investigated but was found to be insubstantial. A large quantity of 14th and 15th century pottery was recovered within the rubble and from its surface.
{4} No evidence of a causeway or road surface of any period was discovered. A number of N-S ditches, with rounded profiles and filled with grey silts, may have served for drainage or as field boundaries. The latter is indicated by the presence beneath an extant hedgerow of a similar ditch which had been recut at least twice. Pottery of the 12th-13th centuries was recoverd from one of the ditches. Although a spread of rubble lay close to the conjectured line of the causeway, it was too insubstantial and ill-defined to have formed a road surface. A large quantity of 14th-15th century pottery within the rubble and on its surface were recovered.
