Trial trench excavation found a 19th century stone track laid over an old ploughsoil. Probably associated with quarrying in the area

Full Description

{1} Five trenches were excavated; they revealed post medieval tree-throw pits, ploughsoil and a C19th trackway of stones overlying ploughsoil. Finds included five sherds of post medieval pottery, one sherd of medieval pottery, two fragments of glass and a flint.

{2} 19th century stone track laid on an old ploughsoil was revealed in the excavation. The trackway and the old ploughsoil had been buried during terracing when the recent industrial estate was built to the north of the site.

{3} 19th century trackway possibly associated with quarrying.
