Full Description

{1} Enclosed parkland shown on map; enclosed by Sir John Willes; improved by Brown in 1759.

{2} Digitised boundary may extend too far eastwards.

{3} Astrop House park attributed to Brown in undated poem in Methuen archives; now held in Wiltshire Record Office; Client Sr Jn Willes.

{4} 1740 description of gravelled walks & hedges of 12ft close clipped; has traced position of walks & found 2 "strange designs".

{9} Enclosed by Act of Parliament in 1772; total 1565 acres; Will Willes Lord of Manor owns 1295 acres; third in pasture.

{11} Keeper's cottage, pheasantry and a cottage by W. Wilkinson of Oxford, 1868.
