Summary

The site of a Royal Observer Corps monitoring post. The site was built as part of an extensive network of posts designed to confirm and report hostile aircraft and nuclear attacks on the United Kingdom. It was opened during May 1960 and closed in Sepember 1991. At the time of the Defence of Britain survey the site was found to be in a good condition. It is located underground in a rectangular compound on the north side of a field boundary, 50 yards west of Scaldwell Road.

Full Description

{1}In summer of 1965 RAF decided that no longer required services of ROC in low-level reporting role; last 280 or so overground structures became redundant; Brixworth opened 1938; ngr 755709; underground protected post accommodation for nuclear role; in use in Oct 1968;,
{2}Lot 8 - ROC post, Brixworth.Situated on a plot of land extending approx 120 sq yards - concrete ROC post is below ground level and comprises one room. Entry to the post is via a hatch and ladder to below ground level.Futher details on location, covenants and rights of way responsibilities;
{3} There were 19 Observer posts in Northants during WW2. The identifying number for Brixworth was K2;
{4} SP75637103; opened May 1960, closed in September 1991; visited by Sub. Brit. 20/03/99; sealed; all surface features intact; identified as a master post; internal features and fittings present;
