Summary

A Royal Observer Corps monitoring post. The site was built as part of an extensive network of posts designed to confirm and report hostile aircraft and nuclear attacks on the United Kingdom. It was opened during December 1961 and closed before 1991. At the time of the Defence of Britain survey the site was found to have been destroyed. It was located underground on the south side of a field boundary, 30 yards east of the A605.

Full Description

{1}In summer of 1965 RAF decided that no longer required services of ROC in low-level reporting role; last 280 or so active overground structures became redundant; Raunds opened 1938; ngr 988746 puts it in Ringstead parish; became underground protected post accommodation for nuclear role in 1961; still in use in Oct 1968;

{3} It was opened during December 1961 and closed before 1991. It was located underground on the south side of a field boundary, 30 yards east of the A605.

{4} There were 19 Observer Posts in Northants during WW2. This post is probably that identified by Gibson as Raunds, with identification number L3;
