Full Description

{1} Trench 4 was situated to the east of Albert Street. The north end of the trench cut a cemetery area and clearly indicates that Greyfriars did not extend this far east. This may relate to the church of St Michael which was situated somewhere in this vicinty. Its churchyard was possibly located between Albert Street and Wood Street.

Between 7 and 36 metres from the north of the trench a series of graves was cut (c 1 grave per metre) at between 1 and 2 metres below the modern ground surface. The graves were generally simple cuts, coffins were not identified and there was only one possible cist. Isolated bones were also noted in section at 44, 45, 61? And 63 metres from the north.
