This street is described as leading from Abingdon Street to the Church of St Michael.

{5} Bishop Hugh of Lincoln's charter specifies St Michael's as one of the nine churches and in existence by 1200. Records exist of presentations to all churches by St Andrew's Priory from 1219 to 1247. St Michael's parish was absorbed by St Sepulchre.

[11} Lee's 1715 history of the town places 'St Miles church at ye upper end of St Miles Lane, now called Cock Lane'.
