Monument record 1742/0/18 - Medieval Horticultural Plots/Paddocks

{1} Ditched plots to south and west of building complex used as paddocks or horticultural plots.

{2} The ditched plots to the south and west of the buildings contained few internal features, suggesting that they were used as paddocks or horticultural plots. However, the arrangement of the plots suggests that contemporary occupation may lie under or near the unexcavated medieval tenements in the eastern part of the site.
During the C12th the plots beyond... appear to have remained open but some were provided with gated entrances and internal pens, indicating their use for stock management.
