Monument record 2800/0/2 - C18th/C19th Ornamental Lake

{1} In 1834 a dam ponded back a small lake which extended north-west and formed part of the landscaped park of Southwick Hall.

{2} Info from J.Johnston 1991. There was formerly a lake, now disappeared, formed by a dam on the corner of the road, and a bridge over stream.

{3} East of the village on the north side of Wych Spinney, is a low dam 45m long x 1.7m high; it spans the valley of a small east-flowing stream. The modern road runs on top of it. The dam ponded back a small lake which extended north-west and formed part of the landscaped park of Southwick Hall.

{4} Lake is shown.

{5} Only the house and the lake are shown by Eyre.

{6} The park is shaded as such, but no detail is shown; the presence of the lake by this time is ambiguous.
