{1}Survey of 1322-3 also mentions Lower Chapel;
{14}Queen's Chapel clearly part of C13th great hall complex but probably built some time later than main chambers; first documented orders for construction materials in 1246;
{9}King's marriage in 1236 was followed in course of next 12 years by various improvements in queen's apartments & provision of chapel for her personal use; chapel burned down in 1318;
{8}Reference to building of Queen's Chapel in 1247;
{4}In 1249 sherrif ordered to put bars into windows of queen's chapel along with new doors & lattice beyond doors;
{3}In 1248 sheriff ordered to wainscote & put glass windows into Queen's Chapel; also to find chaplain to celebrate daily;
{2}In 1246 sheriff ordered to find timber to build chapel for queen at Northampton Castle;
{7}One of two chapels in castle known as Queen's Chapel; frequently documented & appears to have been built in 1246; location of chapel not known;
{6}From Liberate Rolls deduce that there were two chapels in castle; one in keep for use of king & second elsewhere for use of queen; early C14th survey found that lower chapel had been destroyed by fire in 1318;
{5}Lower chapel was destroyed by fire circa 1318; estimated costs of repair in 1323;
