Monument record 5212/0/5 - Romano-British/Saxon Pits, Northampton Castle

Within pits & embankments was found pottery & animal bone in abundance; also found were two pottery discs with holes in centre & coarse needles of bone & other bone implements including possible awls & gouge; lamps & crucibles may belong to this phase but may also be later[source unknown]

{2} Soil beneath castle filled with bones of domestic animals & honeycombed with pits & hollows containing pottery & implements of bone & iron & personal ornaments; Scriven interprets these as mainly Saxon in date.

{3} Minor Roman finds & coins of AD 260-330 found at castle site.
