{1}Gardens near house originally laid out in 1714.

{2}Garden alterations attributed to Mr Guillan.

{6}Parkland; early formal garden with landscape park; 150ha; gardens laid out by Guilliam at time of Thomas Archer's alerations to house 1701-14; park designed 1760-3 by Capability Brown; formal layout survived; lawn and ha-ha and wilderness and rose garden and Yew Walk and avenues and walled kitchen gardens; good records held at Aynhoe; Grade 2.

{7}Gardener allowed £500 per annum to run gardens in latter part of 19th century up to 1st World war. Could sell surplus (P71).Low curved wall built along frontage of house, two openings for drives. Lawns laid and series of beds planted with polyanthus roses. Large bed of half circle planted inside curved wall.Redesign of garden following Second World War by T. Humphries. Box hedges surrounding flower beds near house removed and design of 8 beds each within box hedges laid out. Slabs used to provide paths between beds. Pattern was for 8 triangular beds with 2ft slab paths running between and around beds.

{9}Plan of garden with trees (may not be Aynho). Shows coniferous and mophead trees. Square 80' x 100' with formal planting of beds at corners long path around perimeter of garden with beds of planting - orchid to bottom ?path edge.

{10}Number of ponds, water features indicated on map of Aynho. Include large pond to the south of the house, a series of terraced ponds to the right of the garden prominence, an ocatagon (possible water feature/fountain) in the central court to the north of the house and a formal canal below the steps.
