Full Description

{1} Hoard of 8 Romano-British bronze vessels within iron-bound bronze bucket of same date; found stacked together at c.15ins depth in area thick with graves; dated to late C4th or early C5th; held at Knuston Hall until 1920; found on land belonging to R.W.Arkwright; approximate location only; includes description & discussion of parallels

{2} Drawings of objects by H.Dryden

{7} The hoard of late 4th century bronze vessels is evidence of continuing prosperity in the adjacent Roman town.

{8} Packet of 8 bronze vessels, strainers, saucers etc, packed one inside the other and all into a bucket which was probably a copper oail edged and mounted with iron. The vessels have been taken to be Roman but it seems more likely that they are early British.

{9} We can now see that those vessels are products of the old native bronze industry of Britain, in the late Romano-British, and even the sub-Roman, period
