Description

The Rev Baker records the discoveries derived from ironstone extraction in fields to the east of the known Roman site of Irchester. These discoveries comprised elements of an inhumation cemetery and a hoard of 8 bronze vessels. He discusses in detail the vessels and their form and possible original function with parallels, and provides a location map showing their provenance. The cemetery is described as comprising 3-400 skeletons in shallow graves, often cut into the ironstone and a few graves were lined with limestone slabs
