Summary

An 18th-century shoe was recovered from an Anglian Water sewer trench at the junction of Main Road and Millway. The shoe was later acquired by Northampton Museum.

Full Description

{1} Shoe found in a trench excavated by Anglian Water during August 1996. it was brought into Northampton Museum by Dave Blackburn. The shoe dates from 1775-1800 and has a copper alloy buckle. It has been preserved due to the damp conditions it was buried in. Most of the shoe parts are extant although many of the threads holding the shoe together have disintegrated. Northampton Museum acquired the shoe and were planning on conserving it.
