Full Description

{1} SP637483. Blakesley. A mound c.35ft diameter x 3ft high, being ploughed out. Possible barrow. Reported September 1966 and March 1968.

{2} NGR and parish location reference conflict (info: D.Smith.). Wrong grid reference has been given. Mound is located at SP63774819. Illustration.

{3} Plan.

{4} An excavation of the possible Bronze Age barrow was carried out c.1966, adjacent to the Slapton to Blakesley road. Nothing of interest was found. Reported by Mrs Messinger of Slapton in June 1987.

{5} Mound (SP 63774819) lies in the extreme north corner of the parish, on Boulder clay at 148m above OD. Here, at the highest point of the parish, a mound 13m in diameter and only 0.5m high is still visible. It has been ploughed over and there is no trace of a surrounding ditch. The suggestion that the mound is a barrow cannot be proved and it could be a windmill mound.

{7} Possible barrow located at SP63774819, no ditch is evident. Smith {1} said this is the mound to which he refers. See 25" survey.
