Full Description

{1} In September 1958, a group of pupils from Corby Grammar School excavated another section of the road in Hazel Wood, Corby. Exactly similar results were obtained viz., a road approximately 20 feet wide and 2 feet deep, constructed of a limestone upper surface and ironstone core on a clay bed.

{2} Earthwork of a Roman road; there is a low agger visible within a hazel wood; Scheduled;

{3} An excavation was carried out in July 1977; part of a Roman road was uncovered, metalling and side ditches were observed, as well as a buried soil; a find of a single sherd of Roman greyware was noted; the section was cut prior to roadworks at SP87878837.

{5} Detailed magnetometry over an area of 0.16ha identified the edges of the road and the southern roadside ditch.
