Summary

Cropmarks and finds of Roman pottery of 2nd to 3rd century date and a paved limestone floor indicate the site of a possible settlement. Worked flints have also been found.

Full Description

{1} Roman settlement (?) (centred SP 810635) on Northampton Sand at 96 m. above OD. Cropmarks are said to have been seen from the air in 1962 (at SP 8118 6355) and Roman pottery has been found. Further scatters of Roman pottery have been noted at SP 8113 6346 and 810 643.

{2} Billing (SP 81136346) Overstone Way Close, small scatter of 25 2nd - 3rd Century Roman sherds.

{4} Roman Settlement, Worked Flints (c. SP 811635), N. of Great Billing village, on Northampton Sands, at 95 m. above OD. Cropmarks are recorded at SP 81186355 and Roman pottery has been recovered from the same area. A yard area paved with limestone and associated with Roman pottery was discovered at SP 81256335 while a scatter of Roman pottery of 2nd-3rd century AD was found at SP 81136346. Worked flints have also been discovered in the same area.
