Full Description

{1} Trial trenches to south of main trench showed that road was at this point surfaced only with gravel; 6m length of ditch contained several thousand sherds of Belgic pottery including many fine wares and imports of terra rubra, terra nigra and Lyons ware; also a brooch and a fine coin of Tasciovanus.

{2} The junction of two roads was located; the major road was 7m wide with the minor road, at right-angles and 4m wide; lining roads & constructed over road ditch infilled in early C2nd AD were series of…….; roads identified using recent aerial photography by Upex.

{3} During 1977 additional information was obtained from the deposits sealed by C3rd road surfaces.

{4} Further sections were taken through 2 roads located previously.

{5} Road running across site.

{6} Late Iron Age ditch containing fine pottery including terra rubra & terra nigra & Lyons cups & beakers; also unrecognised bronze coin of Tasciovanus.
