Full Description

{1} The village has evidence of former settlement which may indicate the existence of a poly-focal settlement. There appears to have been four distinct parts to the village. The church occupies a position within an area bounded by roads on four sides. At least one of the roads to the north of the church replaced an earlier road which is marked on the 1723 estate map. This map also shows a moat and Manor Farm to the south, forming the second focal point. To the north-west of the church another area of buildings lie immedietely north-west of Glebe Farm. Finally, to the south of the village is the hamlet of Quinton Green.

{2} Settlement remains formerly part of Quinton village. The remains, though scant are historically important because, together with the standing buildings and cartographic evidence, they indicate that the village was once made up of a number of distinct parts. One part lay around the medieval church [SP 776543] but probably never consisted of more than a few houses until the present century. To the NW around Glebe Farm [SP 772544] there seems to have been another small group of buildings. The moat to the S with the existing Manor Farm and some other houses which have left no visible trace formed another distinct settlement. Further S again lay the small hamlet of Quinton Green [SP 783531];
