Summary

A Royal Observer Corps monitoring post. The site was built as part of an extensive network of posts designed to confirm and report hostile aircraft and nuclear attacks on the United Kingdom. It was constructed after World War II and closed in October 1968. At the time of the Defence of Britain survey the site was found to be in a fair condition. It was located underground on the west side of a farm road/bridleway to Yelvertoft, south of a field boundary, 500 yards north of lay-by on the A428.

Full Description

{1} Underground ROC Post, approached from ladder, steel topped trapdoor lid. Constructed of concrete. Fair condition.

{2} Gibson identifies 19 observer post in Northamptonshire during World War II including that at Crick (identifying number P3, No 12, Bedford group.

{3} Opened 1938. Closed October 1968. Underground R.O.C. post.

{4} Opened, unknown; closed Oct 1968. Sub Britt visited 20/03/1999. Described as open. Damaged hatch and louvres. Limited internal fittings and fixtures. Concrete rubble nearby, possibly from an aircraft post.

{5} AA reports that this U/G ROC post is in "super condition for a post closed in 1968".
