Summary

A Royal Observer Corps monitoring post. The site was built as part of an extensive network of posts designed to confirm and report hostile aircraft and nuclear attacks on the United Kingdom. It was constructed after World War II and closed in October 1968. At the time of the Defence of Britain survey the site was found to be in a poor condition. It was located underground in the north west corner of a field, 65 yards north of modern farm buildings on the north side of the old A427.

Full Description

{1}WW2 observation post at Corby. Identifying number L4, No 12 Group, Bedford.

{2}Opened 1938. Closed october 1968.

{3} Corby SP85178964. Opened - unknown; closed October 1968. Visited by Sub Britt 17/07/99. Open. Hatch missing; shaft flooded and rubbish filled 5ft down with owner reportedly contemplating demolition.
