Full Description

{1} Sequence of shallow gullies (1,2 and 7) in Trench 2 date from c.1000 onwards. They may relate to a long-lived plot boundary. No street frontage etc. Gullies 1,2 and 7 cut earlier features. A pit or quarry extended beyond the edge of Trench 2.

{2} Two rectilinear quarry pits were found; predating the later boundaries. Number of ditches / gullies dating from late Saxon to early medieval period. Gullies do not all appear to be contemporary, but do share common alignment. Two large (undated) ditches noted during watching brief to the south-east of trench 2, appear to be on same alignment.Tentatively suggested that there were a number of east-west aligned planning blocks laid out in the early medieval period.,
