Full Description

{1} Black organic pond silt was seen in trenches 5, 6, 7 and 8. The pond in the 19th century was more extensive than previously thought, covering most of the eastern half of the site. Information from the site owners indicates that in the region of trench 8 the pond was only filled in as late as the 1960s.
