Abstract/Summary

The archaeology on the former Sturdy Concrete site had been badly damaged by widespread industrial activity since the 1960s. Two small islands of surviving archaeology were identified. One relates to a channel depicted as water-filled on early maps, the other to the former Castle Lane. A pond on the site appears to have been more extensive than early maps indicate and some expansion and contraction may have taken place before it was built over in the 1960s.
