Summary

Medieval deer park created 1245-6 by the Abbey of Evesham. The park pale is very well preserved around most of its circuit. On the northside the bank is 6 metres - 7 metres wide and up to 1.7m high. Only a low indistinct bank survives along the southeast boundary. It is partly ploughed out along the south boundary. Traces of banks exist within Badby Wood.

Full Description

{1} Possible evidence for assarting of Badby Wood. The wood used to run up to the boundary bank (Mon 400/0/41) which lies between current woodland and the village.

{2} Badby Wood emparked in 1245-6 by charter granted to Abbot of Evesham; woodland of nearly 180 acres; all except 23 acres now belonging to Sir Charles Knightley; thus Badby Wood in Fawsley Park in C19th.

{4} SP 565 582 80ha park SE of village on boundary with Fawsley. Created 1245-6 by Abbey of Evesham.Park pale very well preserved around most of its circuit.N side bank 6-7m wide and up to 1.7m high above interior (0.25m above outside ground level). Only low indistinct bank along SE boundary. Partly ploughed out along S boundary. At SP 5595 5801 the pale blocks the N-S hollow way (SP 55 NE 24) with a low scarp. Traces of banks exist within the wood.
