Full Description

{1} Remains of a wall built of large flat angular limestone blocks, bonded with yellow sandy mortar. Butted against the wall was a surface of dark orange-brown mortar with some rounded pebbles, this possibly represents a floor suface (although it is not clear whether this was interior or exterior to the wall). Post medieval pottery was recovered from this layer.

{2} The chapel, formerly No.46 Sun Yard, was built in 1877 on the north side of the entrance to Sun Yard. Prior to this in 1855, the land was owned by a Miss Sheppard, but by 1910 the Baptist Trustees owned the chapel.
The 1855 Towcester Rate Book suggests that a frontage house once stood in front of the present chapel building. No other evidence has been found for this property, which would have been demolished in order to build the chapel.
