Full Description
{1} Two ironworking furnaces were located in field 5. Only the bases survived having been truncated by the plough. The furnaces were respectively 0.70m in diameter at depth of 0.17m and 0.68m in diameter and at a depth of 0.15m. Slag and fired clay linings in situ. Ironworking appears to represent primitive technology dating to Iron Age or Saxon/early medieval period as opposed to Roman period.
