Summary

Trackway and enclosures on air photographs. A scatter of Roman pottery has been found nearby. Further cropmarks have been noted on more recent aerial imagery [2006] and appear to show a complex of ring ditches, probably round houses, and further rectilinear enclosures.

Full Description

{2} Ditched Trackway and Enclosres (centred SP 625817:Fig. 144), in the north of the parish, on clay and silts at 140 m. above OD. Air photographs (in NMR) show very faint cropmarks of a ditched trackway (SP 62308175-62508175). On its south side at least three sub-rectanglar enclosures, and ditches which may be parts of other interlocking enclosures can be detected. Some of the photographs also show uneven patches in the crops in the field immediately to the south-east. (SP 626815). A scatter of Roman pottery hs been found close by (SP 624818).

{7} Additional cropmarks are visible on 2006 aerial imagery in fields to the north of the cropmarks identified by the RCHME in fields centred on SP 62798 81766 (a number of ring ditches c20-25m in diameter, possibly of multiple phases), SP 62642 81884 (a rectilinear enclosure with possible trackway along the southern edge aligned ENE-WSW and other less clear cropmarks including a possible ring ditch) and SP 62959 81585 (possible curvilinear and rectilinear cropmarks but obscured by geological marks).
