Full Description

{1} Possible evidence for use of site as part of a Roman field system. View suggested by the amount of Roman pottery (in may different fabrics) scattered through the subsoil and in a series of small ditches, invariably filled with deposits identical to the subsoil. Subsoil of considerable depth (300-400mm) and contained rather more humus than one might expect in a totally natural soil profile.
