Full Description

{1} 147 Henry II silver pennies found during metal detecting.

{2} Robert Moore of Northampton Museum advises that the 147 coins recovered during metal detecting are of a type known as Tealby pennies. The hoard comprises 140 pennies and 7 cut or half coins (which may or may not be genuine halfpennies). Initial indication for deposition of hoard is 1170's AD. No report of a container. 80% of the coins were found within 1m of each other and the remaining ones were found up to 3m further afield. All were recovered from a depth of between 2 and 9 inches. The field is under pasture and was reportedly last ploughed 23 years ago.

{3} More Henry II silver pennies found in small area on pasture land plus possible purse fittings. Present evidence presumes that this find is related to the previous hoard found at this NGR.
