Building record 8445/1/2 - Hangar (R Shed Type)

{1} Large double-bayed hangar. Identified on Record Site Plans for Sywell as building numbers 6 and 10, described as "hangar" or "factory hangar". Oral reports that hangar is of pre-war origin. Sliding doors occupy the full east side of the building. Single storey brick lean-to structures occupy the the west and south sides of the hangar. The main structure of the hangar appears to be original, but few original fixtures and fittings survive. Door clading original, but in poor condition. Roof clading has been replaced.

{3} Additional information provided by B Lowry that says this hangar is an 'R shed'. Only one other is known and that was at Tollerton, Notts, - now lost. This one at Sywell therefore appears to be unique!

{4} Painting shows a structure on the hanger roof of the Holcot Lane buildings. This is where some evidence for a LAA position was said to have been found during re-cladding, although in the painting it looks more like an observation point.
