Summary

A Royal Observer Corps monitoring post. The site was built as part of an extensive network of posts designed to confirm and report hostile aircraft and nuclear attacks on the United Kingdom. It was opened during February 1962 and closed in September 1991. At the time of the Defence of Britain survey the site was found to be in a fair condition. It is located underground in a long rectangular compound on a field boundary, 150 yards east of Upton Lodge Farm and 200 yards west of Weedon Road (A45). At the end of a line of telegraph poles.

Full Description

{1} Source 1: Gibson, M.L. (1982). Gibson identifies 19 Observer Posts in Northants during WW2 including that at Duston/Upton (Identifying number H1, No 12 Group, Bedford) Source 2: Wood, D (1992) Part of No 7 Group Bedford. Opened October 1954. Resited 1953. Undergrounded 1962. Stood down in 1991. Note that these details, including date of opening, appear at variance with Gibson above.
