Full Description

{1} Bridge over River Nene known as "Staplesbrig". The current bridge was built in 1890. An earlier bridge is mentioned in Indulgence of 1227.

{2} This bridge was known in the medieval period as Staplesbridge and in the post medieval as Long Bridge. In 1227 relief of 13 days penance was offered to all those who gave alms for the maintenance of this bridge, and in 1302 repair of the bridge involved the payment of 7/71/2d wages. In 1392 the Guild of St. Mary was established and took on responsibility for the maintenance of Staplesbridge. In the survey of 1548-9 the guild had possessions worth ,5/6/10, used on the bridge repairs.
