Summary

World War II type 24 pillbox, in a good condition, with 3 embrasures. Next to a gate opposite the entrance to Sywell Grange on the Holcot road north of Sywell village, to the west of the aerodrome.

Full Description

{1} Concrete and brick pillbox off south side of Holcot Lane and just west of Sywell airfield. Set in north west corner of field adjoining/within field hedgerow. Brick and concrete. Hexagonal in plan with steps down to entrance at north side. Multiple embrasures. Not further investigated but appears to be reasonably complete. Merits more detailed survey and recording.

{2} NGR SP817679 Hexagonal. 3 loops for MGs, 3-leafed AR screen. Scale drawing.

{3} This pillbox similar to those he's seen at Tollerton, Notts. It may be that these are a type used/developed by Ministry of Aircraft Production at its sites?

{4} Type 24 pillbox with 3 loopholes. Suggests may have been built late in war. Very good condition. Map plus plan and photographs included. Note that this pillbox is not recorded on the Air Ministry Sywell Airfield Record Site Plan No 3821/56.

{7} Type 24 pillbox with 3 embrasures. Brick and concrete. Possibly built later in the war due to limited number of embrasures and thickness of walls.Hexagonal pillbox with 3-leafed AR screen. [M.
