Full Description

{1} Between the rectilinear and oval enclosures, and a little further east, a rectilinear enclosure possibly representing a medieval moated homestead, was levelled in the 1950s. A watching brief in 1998 to the south did not reveal any significant archaeological remains.

{2} (SP 68974306): Rectilinear earthwork: probably homestead moat. Internal height of bank c.1'. The ditch has a well marked profile, which normally characterises Md earthworks. There are no definite entrances.

{3} Clearly visible at SP 68974306 as a four sided irregular enclosure with a small annexe to the SW.

{4} This feature has been levelled and ploughed and is now under pasture, no surveyable remains survive.

Mr Ellis who farms the land stated that prior to 1950 (before the first ploughing) the ditch varied between four to eight feet deep. This is possibly an RB native farmstead site as it resembles closely cropmarks elsewhere in the county classified as 1A/RB.
