Remains of Second World War air raid shelter at Stowehill. Square concrete shelter with a blast wall protected entrance, built into the canal bank.

Full Description

{1} A concrete structure about 2m high x 1.5 metres square in plan dug into the bank alongside the towpath, presumably shelter for the boatmen." Located at Stowe Hill on the north side of the towpath of The Grand Union Canal just east of Bridge 26 (A5 Watling Street). Concrete. Good condition.

{3} Square concrete shelter with a blast wall protected entrance, built into the canal bank. The walls are 23cm thick but the roof is only 6cm thick.Good condition. Photo and scale drawing.
