Full Description

{1} Large limestone quarry pits were also recovered in this area. The backfill of these dated to the 12th, 13th, 14th and early 19th centuries. These presumably provided stone for the construction of the manor and its outbuildings at different times. The earlier quarries in this area could be assigned to the later Medieval stone building (gatehouse) and courtyard phase. Find report.

{2} A further quarry pit was found in this evaluation, it was suggested that it was dug as a small scale stone quarry pit during a phase of alteration to the hall or its outbuildings. Situated to the west of the hall. Again had 13th and 14th century pottery in the backfill.
