Full Description
{1}236 Maintenance Unit, Kettering: (ex 'F' MU) vehicle storage. By 1942 the expanding RAF needed tremendous backup with stores, spares and equipment of all kinds. Maintenance Units were established a more airfields opened. Maintenance Units supplied almost everything to the RAF. Simple storage MU's wredesinated by letters, and 'F'MU, a Motor Transport Servicing Unit, had been transferred from Waddington to Stamford Road kettering in October 1941, coming under the control of 16MU Stafford. Four officers and 91 civillians employed at the peak time towards the end of 1942. General location is the town centre. Suggest use contemporary local directories to establish exact location.
