Full Description
{1}Documentary reference to the passage of Zeppelin L62 on the night of 12/13 April 1918 - "on his way over the County a 50kg bomb was aimed at a searchlight one mile east of Nassington at 11:05pm, breaking a window in the village."
{2} Refers to Field 28 (approx centre TL 06599773) and adjoining Field 29 (approx centre TL 06329774), both located immediately south west of the village of Yarwell. " In October of 1917 I think a German bomb was dropped at night by a Zeppelin on the field known as Broad Goves. The only damage was small branch of a tree was broken off and Mrs Rowles Grocery Shop window was cracked at Nassington quite half a mile away. There was a searchlight erected during the war to protect Wittering RAF Station. The bomb was aimed for that 600 yards away" Described as "I understand it was a 25lb one." There may well be some confusion here between the WW1 Zeppelin raid and searchlight and the WW2 era RAF station.
