Full Description
{2-4} Enclosures and linear features of Iron Age/Romano British date are visible on historic aerial photographs as extant cropmarks and were mapped as part of Historic England’s North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project. Located approximately 480m north of Briary Lodge Farm, Deanshanger, Northamptonshire, and centred at SP 72882 42040. Three sides of a subrectangular enclosure are visible adjacent to the 19th century road created after 1814, woodland or cleared woodland is visible on the 1940s aerial photograph but modern land use is arable. On Google Earth in 2007 the soil is visibly darker in 2007 but no clear features are visible. Cropmarks in 2011 show the enclosures and linear features which may be associated with the settlement, rather than medieval and post medieval woodland features; this area is part of Whittlewood Forest on the 1787 plan of the forest.
