Summary

Fieldwalking survey undertaken in 1982 identified an area of dark soil which contained Roman pottery. The soilmark was also identified on aerial photographs. DNH Database: Benefield/Site 14: Settlement (Significant find scatter)

Full Description

{1} A fieldwalking survey undertaken in 1982 identified an area of dark soil and pebbles. Finds from this area included Roman pottery including colour-coated ware;

{2} Soilmark; dark soil indicates possible settlement debris; Site name: Benefield; NCCAP:9686/012-3(+);

{3} Possible settlement. Roman pottery and rubble have been found; SP963867;

{4} Known site at Luscote Lodge. Late colour-coated sherds, dark area, pebbles. Two areas. That to the north-east at SP96298781 is the largest. Samian collected from the smallest on 10th March 1984.

{5} Area SP 96358675 Black patches & RB pottery (Jackson 1964)

{6} Under corn stubble. Some RB pottery was found but the 'black patches' were not identified.
