Monument record 1370 - Possible Late Iron Age to Romano-British Settlement, north-west of Finedon Poplars

Summary
Cropmarks of probable conjoined ditched enclosures have been identified on aerial photographs. Dark patches of soil and late Iron Age and early Roman pottery have been found during fieldwalking survey.

Full Description
{1} Black patches and glacial pebbles found April 1966 with pottery of the late Iron Age and early Roman types at SP 932 741.
{3} Patches of dark soil and stone have been found, containing pottery of late Iron Age and early Roman type.
{5} Dennis Jackson (MOW) states the Ro pottery was grey and coarse ware; the "IA sherds" was a tentative classification only (only 2 fragments found), none of the material was retained. The finds were made over a wide area of the field as in authority {1}; now under winter crop.
