Full Description

{6} Geophysical survey was undertaken on land to the east of the Roman villa to attempt to provide conclusive evidence for a Roman military camp that was believed to be present, based on crop-marks in the northern part of the field, and finds made in the villa excavation. No evidence for ditches identified as cropmarks were found. There were, however, a number of clearly defined enclosures or a field system probably relating to the wider hinterland associated with the villa. Possible kilns were also identified, although these were undated.
