Monument record 2372/0/1 - Bronze Age Round Barrow, west of Barnwell Country Park

A bowl barrow situated 700m east of Oundle Lodge. The top of the earthern mound has been reduced in size by ploughing but is still visible as a slight earthwork. The remainder of the mound survives as a buried feature beneath alluvial cover.

{1} Sand hill just coming through alluvium. Lot of acid decayed limestone on mound and placed at nearby tree, possible kerb stone?

{2} Earthwork was discovered during fieldwalking in 1982; the round mound of a possible Bronze Age barrow emerging throught the alluvial cover. Limestone on the mound may be surviving kerb. Info: D.Hall 26/11/1982.

{3} Bowl barrow with surrounding ditch approximately 3m wide. The top of the earthern mound is visible as a slight earthwork, the remainder of the mound survives as a buried feature beneath alluvial cover. Documentary sources indicate that Bronze Age artefacts were recovered from a barrow near Oundle during the late 19th century. May have been this site.
