Full Description

{1}Area around Hargrave appears to have long settlement history with evidence of Romano-British & early-middle Saxon & late Saxon & medieval occupation around area; analysis of pottery scatters suggest widespread settlement which was abandoned in medieval period; a number of families held manors in Hargrave but Chicksand Priory & Melchbourne Preceptory also held lands there so its manorial history is somewhat confused; modern road lay-out appears to coincide with that shown on C18th & C19th maps;

{4} photograph of ?timber-framed house demolished to make way for semi-detached bungalow (Barley Mow and Haresdon or Flers and Fritton).
