Summary

Site of deserted Medieval village of Lilford. The houses were demolished in 1755 and rebuilt in Wigsthorpe. There are no visible remains.

Full Description

{1} Documentary references. Normally was taxed together with Wigsthorpe. In 1317 the manor had 26 tenants. Both places together had only 10 able-bodied men in 1529. However in 1674 there were 31 houses in the village(s). The mansion was built in 1635 and houses of Lilford were demolished in 1755 and rebuilt in Wigsthorpe so that Sir Thomas Powys could remodel the landscape around the Hall.

{6} There are no visible remains of desertion at the indicated site.
