Type and Period (1)
Full Description
{1} Cropmarks of two parallel ditches.
{2} Ditched trackway which runs along the north side of a small brook in Fotheringhay and Woodnewton parishes; it is traceable for 800m as two parallel ditches 15m apart and is intersected by linear ditches which may be part of a settlement to the east. Near its centre, in Woodnewton parish, a small sub-rectangular enclosure lies immediately north of it. If it is a trackway it may once have been connected to the large settlement to the south west [ie. The causewayed enclosure HER 2758]. Evidence for a bridge across the River Nene, beyond its south east end may indicate its further extension in this direction. Fig.53.
{3} NCCAP: TL0492/139-141 and TL0493/068-70.
{4} Crop mark remains of a double-ditched trackway aligned NW-SE, situated on the northern side of a brook, straddling the boundary between the parishes of Fotheringhay and Brooknewton. The trackway is visible for 430 metres, the crop mark becoming more fragmented towards the NW end. Three perpendicular linear ditches meet the trackway at the NW end, two on the northern side forming part of an apparent enclosure with the trackway. Possibly associated with the trackway and enclosure, are several pits.
The features were mapped from aerial photographs as part of a 1:2500 scale level 3 photogrammetric survey of the Neolithic Causewayed enclosure (NMR TL09SW 35) situated to the SW at TL04109296. The survey was undertaken for the Indusutry and Enclosure in the Neolithic Project, set up by the Cambridge Field Office of the RCHME. The survey was carried out between the 8th and 9th August 1995 by the Air Photography Unit of the RCHME. Copies of the plan, digital files and report are held by the RCHME.
{5} TL 043929. Parallel crop marks on Aps in Southwick parish. (1)
{6} The area is under plough but no soil marks or surface indication of the feature was seen.
{7} (TL 044929). Two parallel ditches on AP in 1981.
