Description

A 1:2,500 scale, level 3 air photographic survey of all the plough-levelled archaeological features in the vicinity of Southwick Causewayed Enclosure at TL 041929 was carried out by the RCHME between the 8th and 10th August 1995. The survey was carried out as part of the Industry and Enclosure in the Neolithic Project, set up by the Cambridge Field Office of the RCHME.The project objectives were to produce a 1:2,500 plan of all the archaeological features visible on available aerial photographs, accurate to +/- 3 metres, using the AERIAL rectification software published by Bradford University. The features on the final plan included the causewayed enclosure and associated pits, a rectilinear and a curvilinear enclosure, linear ditches and a trackway. An accompanying report was produced, detailing photographic sources, site location and history, and a full description of all archaeological features plotted. All readily available photography held by the RCHME, CUCAP and Northamptonshire County Council were consulted.
